Problems and Challenges

Back in 2015 the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs defined 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These include:

  1. No poverty.
  2. Zero hunger.
  3. Good health and well-being.
  4. Quality education.
  5. Gender equality.
  6. Clean water and sanitation.
  7. Affordable and clean energy.
  8. Decent work and economic growth.
  9. Industry, innovation, and infrastructure.
  10. Reduced inequalities.
  11. Sustainable cities and communities.
  12. Responsible consumption and production.
  13. Climate action.
  14. Life below water.
  15. Life on land.
  16. Peace, justice and strong institutions.
  17. Partnerships for the goals. (UN DoE&SA, 2015 at this Link.)

As stated on the above referenced website by the UN, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future.

At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries – developed and developing – in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.

The BMIL adopts and supports research and development of implementation measures to resolve the 17 SDGs as specified by the UN. While this is a daunting task, a world-wide network of subject matter experts coordinating, and collaborating within their specific areas of research, is the best chance for overcoming the challenges represented in the SDGs.

The Challange

Making progress against the 17 SDGs as defined by the UN (see this Link) is considered a boundary of the challenge facing the BMIL. Initially, we will track the progress made against the SDGs so knowledge is not lost after valuable research efforts are complete.

Next, one SDG, by one SDG at a time, we will coordinate across BMIL researchers and define path forward plans that engage interested participants, which may include standing up COP websites for the SDGs being pursued. Finally, we will record the knowledge gained in pursuit of realizing SDGs.

What we do?

The BMIL brings together resources to solve the world’s most profound problems, such as the 17 SDGs as defined by the United Nations. We bring industry, universities, and Governments together to solve problems, facilitate collaboration to solve critical issues of developing countries, gather research to generate ideas through, and then exploit the findings.

Common Question for this project

In July 2023 the UN released its annual report on the status of SDGs. This special edition report assesses where we stand, highlights existing gaps, and advises we need to redouble our efforts to achieve SDGs.

As reported by the UN the climate crises, the war in Ukraine, a weak economy, and the lingering effects of the pandemic have combined to hinder progress towards SDGs.

The BMIL has laid out a framework where participants can identify a new topic area and submit a request to create a new Current Issues or Community of Practice webpage. With regards to the 17 SDGs defined by the UN, select one of the SDGs, offer your services to manage its webpage, and the BMIL will create an initial webpage where you can get started.

Popular Services

Creating Research Communities

By facilitating the creation of Community of Practice webpages, the BMIL entices our network of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to collaborate on the issues most important to developing countries.

Fostering Collaboration across SMEs

By applying our Management Innovation Cooperative Framework model, we foster the collaboration across a network of SMEs, each with differing perspectives based on the context they derive from the sector they operate in (industry, universities, or government), and their unique educational and practical experiences.
