Dr. G. Ray

Professor, Data Analytics and IT

Dr. Ray is an Assistant Professor at Shepherd University and an Adjunct at UMBC. He teaches courses in data analytics and computer science at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He holds BS in Computer Science, MS in Computer Science, and Doctor of Management degrees.

Dr. Ray has 44 years’ experience applying computer science to resolve complex problems. This includes systems development for international financial institutions, data analytic systems development for national hospital systems, and knowledge management work at the U.S. Courts. He conducted research, design, development, and implementation of major systems for Citibank, Abaco Groupo Financiero, Reynolds Metals, Sentara Health Systems, Crestar Bank, Veterans Administration, the United States Judiciary, and the WV Governor’s Office of Technology.

As a Major in the United States Air Force, Dr. Ray did systems development work in a tempest secure facility as a Computer and Communications Officer. He applied knowledge of electronics theory, information technology, telecommunications, and supervisory and control systems to optimize military operations. He has expertise in computerized, satellite and airborne communications for operations, and in-depth expertise in tracking systems. As a Naval Expeditionary Warfare Officer in the United States Marine Corps, Dr. Ray provided versatility in chaotic and uncertain conditions.
